Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the antibacterial activity of tampala bajakah root extract against Aeromonas hydrophila and to calculate the Percentage Inhibition of Diameter Growth (PIDG) based on the resulting inhibition zones. Antibacterial testing was conducted using the Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion technique. The experimental design included a negative control treated with DMSO, a positive control using chloramphenicol, and treatment groups administered tampala bajakah root extract at concentrations of 20%, 30%, and 40%. The results indicated that the inhibition zone diameters were 6.00 mm for the negative control, 15.01 mm for the positive control, 12.89 mm for the 20% extract, 14.28 mm for the 30% extract, and 15.81 mm for the 40% extract. Corresponding PIDG values were recorded as 0.00% for the negative control, 150.10% for the positive control, 114.80% for the 20% concentration, 138.04% for the 30% concentration, and 163.73% for the 40% concentration. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA demonstrated that the tampala bajakah root extract had a highly significant effect on the growth of Aeromonas hydrophila (p < 0.05). These findings confirm that tampala bajakah root extract exhibits antibacterial properties and is effective in inhibiting the in vitro growth of Aeromonas hydrophila.
