Abstract

This study aimed to improve the writing skills of eleventh-grade students in writing recount texts through the use of Edpuzzle at SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants of this study were 30 students of class XI. The research instruments included writing tests, observation checklists, and field notes. Edpuzzle was used as an interactive video-based learning medium to help students understand the generic structure and language features of recount texts while actively engaging them in the learning process. The findings showed that the implementation of Edpuzzle improved the students' writing skills. The percentage of students who achieved the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) increased from 40% in the preliminary study to 64% in Cycle I and 77% in Cycle II. In addition, students became more active, motivated, and confident in participating in classroom activities. They also showed improvement in organizing ideas, applying the generic structure of recount texts, using the simple past tense, and developing their vocabulary. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Edpuzzle effectively improved students' writing skills in recount texts at the eleventh grade of SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya.
