Supeno, M.Hum., M.Pd This study analyzes the speech act in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s speech at the opening of the International Workshop on "Tropical Forest Alliance 2020," focusing on its discourse strategies in promoting sustainability and productivity in the palm oil and pulp and paper sectors. The research employs a pragmatic framework to categorize and examine various speech acts manifested in the speech, utilizing Austin's speech act theory and Searle's classification as theoretical foundations. The methodology involves transcribing and analyzing the speech to identify directive, expressive, assertive, and commissive speech acts used by SBY to convey directives, express opinions, and make commitments regarding environmental policies. The findings highlight SBY's rhetorical strategies in advocating for sustainable practices and enhancing economic productivity within Indonesia's environmental policy framework. This analysis contributes to understanding the role of political discourse in addressing global environmental challenges and underscores the significance of speech act theory in interpreting communicative intentions in public speeches.
