Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to identify Escherichia coli bacteria and antibiotic resistance of streptomycin 10 µg and tetracycline 30 µg to Escherichia coli bacteria in pet cats in the eastern city of Surabaya. Anal swab samples from pet cats were 35 samples from five sub-districts in the city of East Surabaya, namely Gubeng, Gunung Anyar, Sukolilo, Rungkut and Mulyorejo sub-districts. The testing methods were used to identify the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in this study were culture on MacConkey Agar (MCA) media, microscopic examination using Gram staining and biochemical tests. The tesingt method was used to determine resistance to the antibiotic streptomycin 10 µg and tetracycline 30 µg against Escherichia coli bacteria was using a sensitivity test with the Kirby Bauer disk diffusion technique to determine the presence of antibiotic resistance to streptomycin and tetracycline using Muller Hinton Agar (MHA) media. Data analysis was presented in the form of descriptive analysis to provide positive or negative results in identifying the presence of Escherichia coli bacterial contamination. The results showed that 94.28% (33/35) of the samples contained Escherichia coli bacteria and the antibiotic sensitivity test results showed that 12.12% (4/33) were resistant to the antibiotic streptomycin and 24.24% (8/33) were resistant to the antibiotic tetracycline. Key words: Escherichia coli, antibiotics, streptomycin, tetracycline, resistance.
