Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out if the use of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S Movie Series to improve speaking skills for the 2nd semester students English Department of Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya" can improve students' speaking skills mastery. This research is based on classroom action research, classroom action research starts with small cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting which can help to define issues, ideas, and assumptions more clearly so that those involved and defining more powerful question from themselves as their work progresses. A collaborative observation process that involves monitoring the speaking scores of the students, calculating these scores using statistical patterns, and evaluating their performance against predefined criteria. The research was conducted using observation sheets in the cycle 1 and cycle 2, which were used to assess research findings and gather data. The results show that there is improvement in the student speaking skills at the second semester students in English department, from previous test was 60% who passed the KKM to 73% in the cycle 1, because the success indicator did not meet the minimum 75%, the researcher conducted cycle 2 and got 87%. The progress of their speaking scores in speaking test after learning using the F.R.I.E.N.D.S movie series showed the improvement of speaking skills.
