Abstract

The appearance of acne is one of the factors that interfere with a person's appearance. The microorganism that causes acne is the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria, which can also cause inflammation by breaking down triglycerides into free fatty acids. One way to treat acne naturally is to use the kelakai plant. Some of the compounds contained in the kelakai plant are suspected to inhibit bacterial activity. This study aims to determine the effect of kelakai leaf extract (Steno�chlaena palustris) on the inhibition zone of Propioni-bacterium acnes bacteria. In this study, the population was a pure culture of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria obtained at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Central Health Laboratory of Surabaya with a total sample size of 24 samples. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically using the One Way ANOVA test. The results showed that giving kelakai leaf extract (Stenochlaena palustris) by maceration extraction method using 96% ethanol solution had no effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes indicated by the absence of the inhibition zone diameter formed.
