Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive pathogenic bacteria. These bacteria causes infections that are pyogenic. The negative impact of irrational use of antibiotics, unclear indications, inappropriate dosage or duration of use, inappropriate usage methods, unclear drug status, and overuse of antibiotics cause of resistance to almost all important pathogenic bacteria. Garlic (Allium sativum) bulbs have long been believed to be medicinal plants by Indonesians. Garlic bulbs contain allicin, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins which are known to inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria. Therefore, the aim of this research was to analyzed the relationship between the concentration of garlic (Allium sativum) and the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aeureus bacteria and the factors that influence it. This research was conducted with a literature review method, data and information were collected from several previous studies that were descriptively described. Data collection was carried out by summarizing and synthesizing research results from eight international journals and five national journals. In this study, the largest concentration used was 100% and the diameter of the inhibition zone was 38.12 mm. The results of this study showed that the higher the concentration of garlic (Allium sativum) used, the greater the diameter of the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria produced. Beside the concentration, there are several factors affect the diameter of the growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, namely type of extracts, differences in media thickness, differences in temperature at the incubation stage, the solvent used for extraction, pH, differences in climate where garlic (Allium sativum) grows, the antibacterial test method, testing for bacteria, and the location of bacterial isolation.
