Abstract

ABSTRACT Issahlatun, Alvia. 2020. Muscidae Family As Vectors of Salmonella and Escherichia coli Transmitters in Sampang City, Madura. Supervisor: Prof.dr. Soedarto, DTM & H., Ph.D., SpParK The family Muscidae is an important suborder of Cyclorrhapha. There are 2 groups of the Muscidae family, namely the blood-sucking flies group and the non-blood-sucking fly group. Muscidae groups that do not suck blood are often found in traditional markets. Several types of bacteria that can be carried by flies include Salmonella and Escherichia coli. Flies that are exposed to the bacteria can spread the bacteria to the food they eat. The purpose of this study was to determine that flies of the Muscidae family do not suck blood, which are mechanical vectors of Salmonella and Escherichia coli bacteria in the Sampang traditional market. Included in the population and sample of this study are all flies of the Muscidae family that do not suck blood collected from the traditional markets of Sampang City, Madura. The independent variable of this study was the Muscidae family flies that did not suck blood, while the dependent variable was Salmonella bacteria and Escherichia coli bacteria. The research data was then analyzed descriptively. The results of the collection of 100 flies caught in traditional markets in Sampang City, Madura, identified 71 flies (71%) from the Muscidae family that do not suck blood, namely 48 species of Musca domestica, while species of Fannia sp. as many as 23 heads. Based on the results of bacterial identification in flies, it is known that of the 50 flies of the Muscidae family do not suck blood, the species Musca domestica and Fannia sp. in traditional markets in Sampang City, Madura do not carry Salmonella and Escherichia coli bacteria.
