Abstract

Streptococcus viridans is one of the bacteria associated with dental caries. There are many ways that can be done to prevent dental caries, including using an antiseptic mouthwash. Meanwhile, lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is an herbal substance added to toothpaste because it is related to its ability to inhibit microbial growth. This is because lime contains essential oils which function as antibacterial. In addition, lime comes from plants, where these ingredients are safe and natural. For this reason, the researchers wanted to know whether there was an effect of giving liny orange water (Citrus aurantifolia) on the growth of Streptococcus viridans bacteria using the diffusion method. The study used Streptococcus viridans bacteria cultures with a large sample of 25 which were divided into 5 treatment groups. In this study, the independent variable was the concentration of lime juice (25%, 50%, 75%), Streptococcus viridans, while the dependent variable was the diameter of the inhibition zone of Streptococcus viridans. And the control variables were muller hinton agar media, incubation temperature, incubation time, disc diameter. The data in this study were analyzed using the normality test and homogeneity test using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the Levene test. However, because the data were not homogeneous, testing whether there was a difference was continued using the Kruskal-Wallis test. And the results showed that the provision of liny orange water (Citrus aurantifolia) had an effect on the growth of Streptococcus viridans indicated by the diameter of the inhibition zone formed. Where in the group given liny orange water (Citrus aurantifolia) P3 found the highest diameter of the inhibition zone when compared to the other lime juice treatment groups. And in the group given liny orange water (Citrus aurantifolia) P1 with a concentration of 25% had shown the inhibition zone diameter, so that at this dose it was able to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus viridans.
