Abstract

Abstrack: Spina bifida means the parting of arcus vertebrae that may involve nerve tissue beneath it or not. The reason is the failure of neural tube closure perfectly so that influence the neural and cutaneous ectodermal structures that occur on days 17-20 of pregnancy. Spina bifida can be detected by examination of the AFP (alpha feto protein) on amniotic fluid AFP examined or in blood of pregnant women and can also be detected by ultrasound examination. Specifically a person's risk can be identified based on comparison of gestational age and AFP level. Prevention can be done by giving 400 micrograms of folic acid supplements daily before pregnancy and 800 micrograms / day during pregnancy
