Abstract

PENGARUH EKSTRAK KELOPAK BUNGA ROSELLA (Hisbiscus sabdariffa L.) TERHADAP ZONA HAMBAT Streptococcus mutans Vannisa Kurnia Angelina, 2019 Fakultas Kedokteran. Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya Pembimbing: Dr.H. Mas Loegito, Drs.,MS.,Dr ABSTRAK Streptococcus mutans adalah bakteri utama penyebab karies. Beberapa penelitian memanfaatkan bahan alam yang bertujuan untuk menghasilkan obat-obatan untuk mencegah dan mengatasi penyakit karies gigi. Salah satu tumbuhan yang dapat digunakan sebagai obat tradisional adalah Rosella. Kandungan zat dari ekstrak kelopak bunga Rosella telah diketahui memiliki aktivitas antimikroba yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya pengaruh ekstrak kelopak bunga rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) terhadap zona hambat Streptococcus mutans. Populasi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu koloni bakteri Streptococcus mutans yang tumbuh pada media MHA ( Mueller Hinton Agar) yang diinkubasi dengan suhu 37°C selama 1x24 jam dengan besar sampel sebanyak 6 kelompok perlakuan dan dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali percobaan. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan uji statistik One Way ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian ekstrak kelopak bunga Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans ditunjukkan oleh diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk. Some studies utilize natural materials that aim to produce drugs to prevent and treat dental caries. One of the plants that can be used as traditional medicine is Rosella. The content of substances from Rosella flower petal extract has been known to have antimicrobial activity that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. This study aims to determine the effect of rosella calyxs flower extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) on the inhibitory zone of Streptococcus mutans. The population used in this study was a colony of Streptococcus mutans bacteria growing on MHA (Mueller Hinton Agar) media incubated at 37 ° C for 1x24 hours with a sample size of 6 treatment groups and carried out 4 times. Analysis of the data of this study used the One Way ANOVA statistical test. The results showed that the administration of Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) calyxs extract affected the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria indicated by the formed diameter of the inhibited zone.
