Key words: Difficulties, Learning, Vocabulary This research was intended to find out the difficulties in learning vocabulary among the tenth grade students of SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya. The focused of this research were the difficulties faced by tenth grade students – all major. The subjects of this research were the students of 10– OTP 1, 10–OTP 2, 10–OTP 3, 10–AKL 1, and 10–AKL 2 at SMK Kawung 2 Surabya. Particularly, the students consisted of 134 students. The research used descriptive qualitative combine quantitative research design to describe the data of the topic discussed. The instruments of collecting the data the researcher used questionnaire and vocabulary test. The questionnaire was close–needed with the answer Yes or No. The test was vocabulary test in the form of multiple choice. The result of the research showed that the most difficulty in learning vocabulary which faced by students was grammar with 87.3% based on vocabulary test, and 69% based on questionnaire. Then, followed by meaning with 68.7% based on vocabulary test, and 68% based on questionnaire. Then, in pronunciation about 59,7% based on vocabulary test, and 59% based on questionnaire. Meanwhile, the less serious difficulties was spelling with 36% based on vocabulary test, and 42% based on questionnaire. Eventually, the researcher suggests the English teacher to be actively motivating the students to learn and improving the learning process. The students also should actively improve their learning, especially in vocabulary.
