Keywords : Writing Skill, Narrative Text, Short Film The objective of this research was to find out whether short film could improve the narrative writing skill at SMP Negeri 43 Surabaya. The research design of this study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher conducted this research by two cycles namely : planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this study were students of VIII-C class at SMP Negeri 43 Surabaya. The data collecting techniques were narrative writing test, observation and documentation. The data collecting instruments were observation sheet, writing test and a camera. The data were analyzed through narrative writing score guidance and field notes. The result of this study showed that short film was the appropriate teaching media to teach about narrative text material. It could be seen the improvement in every cycle. It was 50% on Pre Cycle. 67% was on Cycle I, and 83% was on Cycle II. Therefore, all implemented actions were successful to improve the students’ narrative writing skill especially for eighth graders by using short film.
