Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion or action. One of the alternative adjuvant therapies currently being developed is vitamin D, which plays a role in increasing insulin sensitivity and reducing inflammation. This study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin D3 administration on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus Wistar rats. This was an experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group design involving 24 male Wistar rats, divided into four groups: negative control (K-), positive control (K+), treatment 1 (P1; vitamin D3 dose 1000 IU/kgBW), and treatment 2 (P2; vitamin D3 dose 2000 IU/kgBW). Diabetes induction was performed using alloxan at a dose of 150 mg/kgBW intraperitoneally. Vitamin D3 was administered for 4 weeks. Blood glucose levels were measured before induction, after induction, and after treatment. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed significant differences in blood glucose levels among the groups (p = 0.002). Group P1 showed a decrease of 15.17 mg/dL, while group P2 showed a decrease of 56.33 mg/dL. In conclusion, vitamin D3 administration can reduce blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus Wistar rats, with a greater reduction trend at a dose of 2000 IU/kgBW. Keywords: Vitamin D3, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose, alloxan, Wistar rats.
