Abstract

Based on the problems faced by teachers and students, researchers found data that is the lack of variation in learning media from teachers. Therefore, researchers conducted research using varied media to improve students' speaking skills in speaking English. This study uses the Classroom Action Researh (CAR) method. Researchers prove that using video as a learning medium can improve students' speaking scores. Video as a learning media is said to be able to make the learning atmosphere more enjoyable. The objects studied were students of grades X - 3 at SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya. This method is carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The four stages are carried out sequentially and repeated until the results are found that the speaking ability score can be stated to have increased, and is focused on individual presentations so that students are accustomed to speaking in front of the class. Based on the research conducted by the author the result showed that there is an increase in speaking ability scores after 2 cycles of learning. The increase in scores can be seen through the cycles/meetings that have been implemented. The score of the Students who passed the KKM increased 81%. The conclusion of this study is that the use of video as a learning medium for teaching English can improve students' speaking skills. Although there are several other factors that help such as the way researchers organize class management. However, the use of video has proven to be successful in improving the speaking scores of class X-3 students at SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya.
