Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the presence of coliform bacteria in cow's milk sold in the South Surabaya area. Twenty fresh cow milk samples were obtained from five sellers in the area for analysis. The results of thetotal Plate Count and Most Probable Number tests revealed microbialcontamination in the samples. The data were analyzed descriptively using tables and figures. The results showed that all samples have microbial contamination in fresh milk, and all samples contained coliform bacteria in the form of Escherichia coli. The varied results among the test samples could be caused by differences in sanitation and hygiene between producers, differences in washing sources, the cleanliness of milk collection containers, and post-milking milk storage.
