Abstract

Siska Wulandari ( NPM : 14620002 ), Aung San Suu Kyi’s Struggles in Luc Besson’s The Lady, a thesis. Frist Adviser : Dra. Rida Wahyuningrum, M.Pd, Second Adviser : Drs. Supeno, M.Hum. M.Pd, Examiner : Drs. Johny Sugihono, M.Pd. Graduate program of Language and Science, Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya Key words : struggle, character, The Lady movie by Luc Besson. This research aims to identify the concept of stuggle, to analyze Suu Kyi’s the main character in The Lady by struggle concept, to know the cinematograpy concept that use in The Lady movie by Luc Besson. Applying the theories proposed by struggle for democracy theory from Issa Shivji ( 2003 ). Researcher anayzed the data to answer the reserach questions. This research is Qualitative study. The subject of this research is The Lady movie by Luc Besson. The primary data of this research was the transcript subtitle in The Lady movie by Luc Besson. The supporting data were obtained from other sources which are related to the primary data such a biography of Aung San Suu Kyi, the website from internet about the film The Lady and other resources that support the analysis. In collecting data, the researcher applying two steps : observation, and documentation. The data analysis was conducted using struggle concept and cinematography theory. The result of of this research show important points. First, the researcher devided into two part of Suu Kyi’s struggle : struggle for life and for democracy. It was depicted in the scene that reflected about her struggle. Second, Suu Kyi is a protagonist character. She was strong, kind, creative and persevering. It was also depicted the scene that reflected about her character. Third, The directed used three types of picture taking. There are medium close up, medium long shot and long shot. �
