Surabaya WijayaKusuma University. Advisor : 1. Dra. Hj. Sri Kartini, and 2. Drs. Herry Kusmiharto, M.Pd. Keywords: board games, make a short sentence and dialog, speaking skill, second grade of Junior High School This research has a purpose to improve students’ speaking skill of MTs Nurul Ikhlas Sidoarjo by using board games, especially for VIII-D class. It was conducted in two cycles, which was held for four meetings. Two meetings in the first cycle and two meetings in the second cycle. This research employs Kurt Lewin’s design of Classroom Action Research (CAR). It follows four stages: planning, action, observation and reflection. Concerning with the research question in chapter one, the researcher used an observation checklist in order to know the students’ achievement in teaching speaking by using board games. The result of students’ achievement in cycle one was not satisfactory enough and the result of the students’ achievement in cycle two was better and showed better enough achievement of the students. The results of the study show that the implementation of board games in the teaching and learning process of speaking can improve the students' speaking skills. It can be seen from the result of the data in each cycle. The percentage result of the first cycle was 50% of the students who reached the KKM ≥ 75, and the percentage result of the second cycle was 91,6% of the students who reached the KKM of ≥ 75. From the data analyzed above, it means that there was an improvement of student speaking score from the first cycle to the second cycle. So the researcher conclude that the use of board games can improve students’ speaking skill of the second grade students of MTs Nurul Ikhlas Sidoarjo.�
