Abstract

ABSTRACT Febriani. 2018. Improving Students’ Skill in Writing Procedure Text using Video Tutorial at The Second Grade Students of SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya. The Advisor: (I) Dra. Bekti Wirawati, M.Pd and (II) Drs. Johny Sugiono, M.Pd. Key words: Writing Skill, Procedure Text, Video Tutorial This study was conducted in order to know whether video tutorial can improve students’ skills in writing procedure texts for the second grade of SMAN 12 Surabaya. The subject of the study was consisted of 40 students of XI IPA 1. In conducting this study, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of the study. The researcher used the Kurt Lewin’s model design. Then, the resarcher and English teacher of SMA N 12 Surabaya were collaborated in conducting this study. The researcher was as the teacher and the English teacher was as the observer and the collaborator. The researcher taught writing of procedure text using video tutorial. This study was conducted following procedures of the action research: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of one meeting. The data was gathered in this study through observation sheet, writing test, and documentation. The results of the study showed that there was improvement of the students’ skill in writing procedure text using video tutorial. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the second cycle. Those score of Minimum Mater Crterion / Kriteria Ketuntasan Mminimal (KKM) of English lesson was 75. The class percentage in the preliminary study was 15%. Besides, the class percentage showed that were 42,5% students passed the KKM in the first cycle and 80% students achieved the KKM in the second cycle. It mean that this study had been reached the criteria of success; 75% students could pass the KKM. Moreover, the class condition during teaching learning process was also better in every cycle. In addition, there was a positive response from the English teacher and the students about implementing the action. So it could be conclude that video tutorial improve students’ skill in writing procedure text.
