Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has a wealth of plant species. One of the uses of plants as therapy in herbal medicine is the papaya plant. Papaya is known to be effective in improving digestion, lowering cholesterol levels, killing bacteria that cause colon cancer and preventing constipation. Every part of the papaya plant can be used as an herbal therapy, starting from the seeds, roots, leaves and fruit because of the content of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins which have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. Staphylococcus aureus is a colony of bacteria that can generally be found on the skin, respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract of humans without risking any health problems. In some conditions, these bacteria can be invasive pathogens in humans. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can become the focus of infection and can spread through direct contact or touching a contaminated object. The research design used was experimental research with a post-test only control group design using the Broth Dilution Test technique. This research was conducted to see the effect of giving papaya (Carica papaya L.) leaf preparation on the killing power of Staphylococcus aureus by using the antibacterial sensitivity test method. The results showed that the administration of papaya leaf juice (Carica papaya L.) was unable to kill the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This is evidenced by the presence of bacteria growing on agar media for administration of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) concentrations of 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%.
