Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the descriptive text writing skills of tenth grade students at SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya through Quizizz. This study was driven by by students' difficulties in organizing ideas, mastering vocabulary, and applying correct grammar in descriptive writing. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which was implemented in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were 27 students of class X-1. Data were collected through quantitative methods (writing tests) and qualitative methods (observation sheets). The success criteria were achieved when 75% of the total students met the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) of 75. The results of the study showed that the Quizizz succeeded in improving students' writing skills. The percentage of students who passed the KKM increased from 0% in the Preliminary study to 37.03% in Cycle I, and finally reached 77.77% in Cycle II. In addition, the results of observations showed that students became more actively involved and enthusiastic during the teaching and learning process. In conclusion, the use of Quizizz can improve students' writing skills in descriptive texts at X-1 SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya.
