Abstract

The Success Rate of Artificial Insemination Using Y-Sexed Semen on Male Calf Production in Palang District, Tuban Regency, During the Period Birth from January 2025 – January 2026 IRLANDO PRADANA BAYU CRISARA Summary The beef cattle sector played an important role in fulfilling animal protein requirements in Indonesia; however, it still faced constraints due to the low availability of livestock population. One effort to increase production was implemented through Artificial Insemination (AI) using Y-sexed semen to improve the probability of male calf production, which has higher economic value. This study aimed to evaluate the success rate of artificial insemination using Y-sexed semen in beef cattle in Palang District, Tuban Regency. The study was conducted on 45 recipient cows using recording data obtained from the iSIKHNAS system, which included parameters of Non Return Rate (NRR), Conception Rate (CR), Service per Conception (S/C), and the percentage of male calf births. The research method applied was a quantitative descriptive approach with data analysis using tabulation and percentage calculations.The results showed that the average NRR value was 78%, CR was 55.56%, and S/C was 1.28, which were categorized as fairly good in supporting reproductive performance. The percentage of male calf births reached an average of 77.14%, indicating that the use of Y-sexed semen was relatively effective in increasing the likelihood of male calf production, although it had not yet reached the maximum level. The variation in each parameter was influenced by physiological conditions of the animals, feeding management, environmental factors, semen quality, and inseminator skills. Based on these findings, it could be concluded that the application of artificial insemination using Y-sexed semen provided reasonably good results and had the potential to improve beef cattle productivity when supported by optimal reproductive management.
