Abstract
ABSTRACT A study to investigate the properties and characteristics of thiram-based fungicides on the growth and early development of corn seeds and seedlings in a growth chamber. This study was conducted at the Seed and Plant Physiology Laboratory of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, UWK Surabaya, from January to February 2026. This study used a 4 x 4 Balanced Incomplete Block Design (BIBD) with 5 replicates on P32 hybrid corn seeds. A tetrazolium test was performed as a preliminary assessment to ensure seed viability exceeded 90%. Seed growth and development were assessed using a germination test with the rolled paper test in plastic (UKDdp). The results showed that thiram-based fungicides had a significant effect (p = 0.05) and there were significant differences among treatments (p = 0.05) for all observed parameters (% of germinating seeds; normal seedlings; abnormal seedlings; dead seeds; seed Vigor; and seeds infected with fungi). The T3 treatment yielded the highest average yield and the greatest yield increase for all parameters. The results of the regression analysis indicate that there are two mathematical models of causal relationships between the percentage of germinated seeds and: 1) normal seedlings and seedling Vigor, which are constructive-contributory (positively linear); 2) distortive-reductive factors, namely abnormal seeds, infected seeds, and dead seeds. The two positive linear models have the following statistical values, respectively: 1) normal seedlings (Germinated Seeds = 86.41 + 0.21*Norm Germination; R² = 29.09; RMSE 3.86); and 2) seedling Vigor (Germinated Seeds = 91.65 + 0.97*Vigor; R² = 1.81).
