Abstract

Reading comprehension is a key skill for senior high school students, especially when dealing with academic texts like report texts. However, many students still struggle to understand report texts due to difficult vocabulary, grammar, and lack of engaging learning materials. Traditional media such as textbooks and static images often fail to support active learning. To overcome this issue, teachers need to use more interactive tools. One such tool is the Easy English YouTube channel, which provides real-life English conversations with subtitles, helping students improve their language skills in a fun and engaging way. The purpose of this study is to explore whether using the Easy English YouTube channel can improve students’ reading comprehension, particularly in understanding report texts. The research was conducted in a class of tenth-grade students at SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya. The findings showed that students who learned with Easy English videos showed better understanding of report texts. They were more engaged, more confident in recognizing vocabulary and tenses, and showed improvement in test scores. The use of Easy English videos can help students improve their reading comprehension, especially for report texts. It also supports the Merdeka Curriculum’s goals of active and student-centered learning.
