Abstract

Anggi Anisa Putri, 2025. “Improving Students’ Writing Skill by Using Short Videos at Class X-5 of Hang Tuah 1 Senior High School Surabaya”. Under the thesis of English Education Department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University. Keywords: Short Videos, Writing Skill, Improving. The problem in this study is the lack of writing skills of students at class X-5 of Hang Tuah 1 Senior High School Surabaya. This causes their writing scores to be low, not reaching the minimum competency criteria (KKM). Their low writing scores are caused by a lack of knowledge of the information content and language structure of the text, especially in the report text. Also low enthusiasm of students in learning English. This research aims to improve students' writing skills by using short videos. This research uses classroom action research (CAR) methodology where the researcher uses two data; qualitative and quantitative data. The researcher conducted the research for two cycles, each cycle was carried out with four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The researcher used observation sheets and student writing tests to collect and analyze data. The results of this study indicate that using short videos can improve students' writing skills. This can be seen from the increasing percentage of students' writing test scores that scored above the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) from 59% to 74%. Students also showed good and active responses during the learning process.
