Abstract
Everything that is written or spoken that is based on ideas, beliefs, personal experiences, imaginative feelings that reflect reality, or original data presented in a beautiful way through language medium is considered literature. This study focuses on the kinds and the causes conflict takes place in the film. This study describes the characteristic and the conflict of main characters in Fahrenheit 451. This study uses the qualitative descriptive method to explain what is inferred from the research object. The research methods for gathering data include note-taking and listening to capture significant information and to listen to the thing being studied. This study uses film Fahrenheit 451 by Truffaut as data source which lasts more than an hour and other data like journal as support. The results of the study on the film Fahrenheit 451 reveal main character’s doubts about the government system that prohibits its people from reading books. He begins to doubt the truth and feel bound by a system that restricted his freedom of thought and tries to read books. He gradually realizes that book burning is wrong and destructive to society. Through the analysis of the main character’s conflict, the film Fahrenheit 451 is able to illustrate the importance of freedom of thought, ideas, and access to knowledge.
