Abstract

English lessons are an important part of 2013 curriculum and in the material lesson in junior high school level making written text is one of the basic competencies of English lesson. At the junior high school level, there are serveral text that must be learned, one of which is descriptive text. This research aims to find out wheter project based learning teaching model can increase the students writing skill in descriptive text. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) is used in this research. The subject of this research is class VIII-C students of junior high school 46 Surabaya with the numbers of the subject consisted of 27 students. When researcher observed the students, researcher found that the students' writing skill were poor, they had difficulties in writing descriptive text, such as they did not master the grammar, could not find any idea, and have limited vocabulary. The research finding indicated that teaching writing descriptive text through project based learning influences students writing skill, it was proved by seen through the percentage increase in students' score test from the previous score from teacher and test score 37.03% and test score from cycle I was 59.25% then improved to be 81.48%.
