Bekti Wirawati, M.Pd. Keywords: Speaking Skill, Project Based Learning, Recount Text This research, “Improving Students’ Speaking Skill Through Project Based Learning At VIII-C SMPN 21 Surabaya”. Using the Classroom Action Research. Research method was influenced by students’ low vocabulary and mispronounciation in speaking skill. The purpose of this research to improve speaking skill using Project Based Learning. This research took place at SMPN 21 Surabaya from May 22nd to May 23rd, 2023. This research completed in two cycle because the success indicator were met in the second cycle. There are 4 stages in each cycle carried out in this research, such as: Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. Test and observation are used as the data collection procedure. Data collection instruments contains observation sheet and test. The research findings indicate that there is an increase in each cycle. Only 33,33% of students were able to pas KKM during the previous score. While remaining 66,66% were unable to do so. Afterward, the first cycle achieved a score of 48,48%. Although there was an increase of 15,15%. In the first cycle. The amount of growth still falls short of the success indicator. Therefore, after the second cycle conducted, the percentage improved to 75,75% which means that the success indicator has been met. Students’ also shown excitement for learning and teaching activities when project based learning used as a strategy. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that project based learning can help students enhance their vocabulary and pronunciation in the speaking skill.
