Kata Kunci: Kawin Tangkap, Konstruksi Sosial Perempuan, Mareda Kalada ABSTRACT The existence of kawin tangkap in Mareda Kalada Village has begun to decline from year to year, because the dowry or belis that will be given to women is very expensive. Unfortunately, many of the practices of kawin tangkap in Mareda Kalada Village no longer follow the old traditions of Sumba culture in Mareda Kalada Village. Therefore, this study is conducted to determine the practice of kawin tangkap and the social construction of kawin tangkap for women in Mareda Kalada Village, East Wewewa sub-district, Southwest Sumba. This research is a qualitative study with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collected with observation and interviews with data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Informants from this study were those who saw, were involved, became the main actors/victims and traditional leaders, totaling 7 people. The results of this study indicate that the practice of kawin tangkap that occurs according to this tradition goes through seven stages and that which is not in accordance with tradition only goes through a few stages, while the social construction of kawin tankap for women according to tradition is in the form of high respect for the position of "special" women. On the other hand, the social construction of kawin tangkap for women is not in accordance with tradition, where women are viewed as a means of paying debts and acts of violence against women in the process of kawin tangkap. The originality of this research lies in the selection of the selected research sites, so that it can be used as a new reference in research on kawin tangkap for the indigenous peoples of Southwest Sumba..
