Abstract

ABSTRACT Putri, Ayu Anggaraeni. 2020. Sensitiveness Test Of Salam Leaf Extract (Syzygium polyanthum W.) On Inhibition Zone Of Staphylococcus aureus. Final assignment, Faculty Of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University. Supervisor: dr. Titiek Sunaryati, M.Ked. Examiner: dr. Maria Widijanti Sugeng, M.Kes. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is an invasive pathogenic bacteria in humans. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can become the focus of infection and can spread through direct contact or touching a contaminated object. One of the Indonesian plants that is useful as an antibacterial is the salam plant. Apart from being an antibacterial, bay plants can also be used as anti-diarrhea, antioxidant, antihypertensive, anti-cholesterol and anti-diabetics. The purpose of this research was to determine the sensitivity produced by the antibacterial substance of bay leaf extract (Syzygium polyanthum W.) to the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus. The population of bacteria used was a pure culture of Staphylococcus aureus, which is available at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Surabaya Health Laboratory with a total sample of 28 samples. The independent variable in this study was bay leaf extract (Syzygium polyanthum W.) with various concentrations (50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%). While the dependent variable is the diameter of the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Data analysis in this study used the One Way ANOVA statistical test. The results showed that the administration of bay leaf extract (Syzygium polyanthum W.) was able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Key Words : Salam leaves (Syzygium polyanthum W.), Inhibition zone, Staphylococcus aureus
