Bekti Wirawati, M.Pd The focus of this research was on these research questions: 1.) “What are the types of flouting maxims that occur in humorous dialogue of “dumb and dumber 2”movie?” and 2.) “How do the flouted maxims lead to jokes or humor in the humorous dialogue of “dumb and dumber 2” movie?” This research applied Gricean cooperative principle and conventional humor theory to explore which conversational maxims and flouted and to reveal how flouting of Gricean maxims lead to jokes or creating humor in Dumb and Dumber 2 movie. In order to achieve the aim of this research, discourse analysis method was employed to analyze the data. The data were collected from the subtitle transcription of Dumb and Dumber 2 movie. The results of this research showed that flouting of Gricean maxims had contributions to creating humor in a comedy movie. Flouting of Gricean maxims caused utterances between characters to have absurdity, inferiority, incongruity, and exaggeration. Thus, it created humorous effects. Theresults found that the characters flouted Gricean maxims by giving too much or too less information, lying, providing less evidence, saying something without sufficient evidence, using an irony, saying statements that had opposite to the real intended meaning, changing the topic, giving irrelevant answers, uttering different topics, using obscure expressions, using another language, being not direct and not brief in utterances, giving other information, using an exaggeration, metaphor, and using sarcasm, and using slang word.
