ABSTRACT Nurul Hidayah.15620016.2019. Using Picture Series to Improve Student Writing Recount Text at 10th Grade of SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya. Thesis, Engish Department, Faculty of Language and Science, Wijaya Kusuma University of Surabaya. 2019. Keywords : Writing , Picture Series, Classroom Action Research, Recount Text This study was attempted to improve students writing recount text using picture series at 10th grade of SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class X AKL SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya, consist of 30 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. The instruments of collecting data were observation sheet and test. Based on the writing test score, it was found that the students’ score kept improving from the first cycle to the second cycle. The result of this study showed that the students’ writing skill improved by using picture series. There was a significant improvement from the data by the teacher, cycle I and Cycle II. From data of the teacher 20% student can pass the writing test. It improves as 65% to cycle I. While from cycle II 83% students can pass the writing test. Thus, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. Student were active and interested in writing using picture series. The result of this research shows that picture series can improve senior high school students’ writing skill.
