Abstract
This condition shows that economic development in the City of Kediri is more rapid than in other cities in East Java Province. Thus in East Java Province there are economic inequality in each region within it. This study aims to explain the extent of inequality that occurs in each city district in East Java Province from 2012 to 2017. One theory that explains economic inequality is the theory of Inverted U-Curve developed by Kuznets. In the Inverted U-Curve theory explained that the beginning of economic development takes place income distribution tends to be uneven, but after reaching a certain level of development, income distribution will be more evenly distributed. This research was conducted using a type of descriptive research and quantitative approach. The type of data used is quantitative data obtained from the Central Java Provincial Statistics Agency. Data collection techniques were carried out by library studies which were then analyzed using descriptive analysis models, which consisted of: (1) data reduction; (2) data presentation; (3) drawing conclusions. The results of the study explain that the level of economic inequality that occurs in city districts in East Java Province throughout the period of 2012 to 2017 through the Williamson index value shows a value of more than 0.5 or a value of 0.9 which approaches 1. This result explains that there is an high economy in each district and city of East Java Province. Keywords: Economic Inequality, Inverted U-Curve, Kuznet Hypothesis.
