Abstract

Cases of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) are reported to continue to increase in male patients over 50 years old, their prostate glands enlarge and block urine flow by covering the urethral orifice. Risk factors that can trigger BPH include age, genetics and diabetes mellitus (DM). From this description, this study was conducted with the aim of further analyzing whether there was a relationship between the incidence of diabetes mellitus and the incidence of benign prostate hyperplasia in male outpatients aged 50 years old and above who came to the urological poly of Syarifah Ambami Rato Ebu Hospital Bangkalan. The population in this study were male outpatients aged 50 years old and above who came to the urological poly of Syarifah Ambami Rato Ebu Hospital Bangkalan with a large sample taken as many as 44 respondents. This sampling is done by purposive sampling. The independent variable in this study is the incidence of diabetes mellitus, while the dependent variable in this study is the incidence of benign prostate hyperplasia in male outpatients aged 50 years old and above. Analysis of this research data using the chi square test. Based on the results of the study, there was a correlation between the incidence of diabetes mellitus and the incidence of benign prostate hyperplasia in male outpatients aged 50 years old and above who came to the urological poly of Syarifah Ambami Rato Ebu Hospital, Bangkalan, which was 80%.
