Abstract
Millian Lobo, Albert. 2019, The Setting Analysis of Inferno, the Film. S-1 Thesis. English Deparment. Language and Science Faculty, Wijaya Kusuma University. Advisors : (1) Dr. Rida Wahyuningrum, M.Pd ; (2) Dra. Lusy Tunik Muharlisiani, M.Pd. Key words: Inferno, film, setting This study aims to find out how the setting can support the storyline that is drawn in Inferno film by Ron Howard taken from Dan Brown's Inferno novel. The method used in this study is qualitative. In this study, the authors used literature. The author looks for books, journals, theories, and articles related to the topic. Setting theory and cinematographic theory are used to answer this problem. The results showed that the film's setting plays an important role in the way the storyline or plot of the film is designed. Such interests can be seen from the interrelationships between places in the film. This means that the place settings for this film are related to each other. So every place in the film has clues to the puzzle that are interrelated and lead to the discovery of Inferno, in the storyline. Then, setting the film becomes important because it has three important points. They are historical and religious backgrounds from the background of this film, then Inferno as a biological weapon to destroy humanity created by Betrand Zobrist, and the power to solve mysteries.
