Abstract
ABSTRACT Staphylococcus aureus is a round-shaped gram-positive bacteria pathogenic to humans. This study was aimed to determine the effect of betel leaf decoction and lime juice to the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This study used a pure culture of Staphylococcus aureus obtained from Microbiology Laboratory of Faculty of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya. A total of 25 samples were taken with 5 agar plates per treatment group and distilled water for negative control without any extract addition and positive control using 100% concentration. Data obtained were analyzed using parametric statistical test of One-Way ANOVA, followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test if any differences existed. The results of the analysis showed that the mixture of betel leaf decoction and lime juice had an effect to the growth of Staphylococcus aureus seen from the formation of inhibition zone diameter.
