Abstract

DEGREE OF TOXOCARIASIS INFECTIONS REVIEWED FROM CALCULATION OF TOXOCARA spp. EGG AND ABNORMALITY OF BLOOD PICTURES (Erythrocytes) OF STRAY CATS (Felis catus) IN DUKUH KUPANG SURABAYA Vidya kurnia ABSTRACT This study was aimed to find out the infection degree of Toxocariasis and the picture of blood abnormality ( Erythrocytes ) in stray cats ( Felis catus ), at Dukuh kupang, Surabaya. The samples used in this study was 38 stray cats’s blood and faeces that were taken from Dukuh Kupang settlement. 38 faeces samples from 38 faeces was infected by Toxocara spp with severe degree of infection. Severe degree of infection Toxocara spp. was showed by egg counting method between 1.050 – 24.650 egg of worms per gram of faeces. Blood test results showed 25 blood samples of 38 blood samples had microcytic hypochromic anemia, 12 blood samples of 38 blood samples had macrocytic hypochromic anemia and 1 blood sample of 38 samples of blood had macrocytic normochromic anemia. Prevalence rate of toxocariasis was 100% ( 38/38 ) indicated the environment has been contaminated by Toxocara spp. eggs. Keywords : Cat, Toxocara, Faeces, Blood, Erythrocyte
