Abstract

This study examines metaphorical expressions in Barack Obama’s 2015 COP21 climate speech. It aims to identify the types of metaphors used and explain how they help the audience understand climate change. The study uses a qualitative method and Lakoff and Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The findings show that Obama uses structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors to make climate issues clearer, more serious, and more relatable. These metaphors help build meaning and encourage public awareness and responsibility.
