ABSTRACT Yunita Nirmala. 2018. Improving Senior High School Students’ Writing Skill Through use of Story Circle Technique at SMAN 12 Surabaya. Advisor: Dra. Bekti Wirawati and Hj. Siti Azizah, S.Pd, M.Pd. The objective of this research was to find out the improvement of students’ writing skill by using Story Circle technique at SMAN 12 Surabaya. Thedesign of research was a classroom action research. The research was conducted at SMAN12 Surabaya in Apriluntil May 2018. The subjects of this research were the X IPA 6 grade students of SMAN 12 Surabaya in 2017/2018 academic year. It consists of 36 students. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps: plan, action, observation, and reflection. The data collecting instruments of this studywere observation sheet, writing test and documentation. The data were analyzed from field notes and the students’ score in writing test. The result of this study showed that the students’ writing skill improved by using technique.There was a significant improvement from diagnostic test, cycle I and cyle II. From diagnostic test, 13.8% students can pass the writing test. It improves as many as 27.8% to cycle I. While from cycle I, 41.6% can pass the writing test. It improves as many as 36.1% to cyle II. While from cycle II, 77.7% can pass the writing test. Thus, all implemented actions were successful to improve the students’ writing skill by using Story Circle technique.
