Abstract
Zahrah, Ardelia Zenita (2025).21620013.The Use of Speech Acts Produced in “Cinderella” the Movie.Department of English Education,Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University, 2025. This study examines the use of speech acts in Cinderella the movie with a focus on illocutionary and perlocutionary acts as proposed by J.L. Austin (1962) and J. Searle (1969). The aim is to identify what types are used by the main characters in the movie Cinderella. By using a descriptive qualitative method, the data were taken from the dialogue of the movie. Each utterance in the movie was transcribed, coded, and categorized based on its usage. The researcher found 57 speech acts, namely 50 illocutionary acts, including 20 assertive, 7 directive, 4 commisive, 19 expressive, and 0 declaration. and 7 perlocutionary acts. The findings show that language in movies is used to convey meaning, produce an action, and influence others emotionally or behaviorally. The perlocutionary acts mainly show how words can affect listeners. This research supports by Austin and Searle's theory and provides insight into how speech acts emerge and function in utterances in a movie. Keywords: Speech Acts, Cinderella, Illocutionary Act, Perlocutionary Acts
