Abstract

ABSTRACT THE DETECTION OF FORMALIN AND HEAVY METAL MERCURY (Hg) IN SHRIMP IN TRADITIONAL MARKET IN KUPANG CAROLUS PILIPUS RATO KOLO The aim of this reseach was to detect formalin and mercury (Hg) in shrimps that sold in traditional markets in Kupang. This research used the descriptive method. Samples in this research choosen randomly with simple random sampling technique. The size of samples was determined by Slovin method and 2 samples of shrimp seller of each market or 10 seller as total samples. The result of this research shown that the shrimps from every seller got negative result or there were no formalin and mercury detected. Conclusion of this research result shown that there were no formalin and mercury (Hg) detected in vannamei shrimp that sold in traditional market in Kupang. Based on this result, the relevant agencies such as animal husbandary department and marine and fishery department have to do routine examination of formalin and heavy metal residues of animal foodstuff to secure the food safety.
