Abstract
The problem of this research in grade 10 of SMA Kawung 2 Surabaya is caused by the students' low writing ability. This can be seen from the analysis of student scores based on the KKM which refers to the Merdeka Curriculum used. The low scores of students in writing are caused by the lack of students' knowledge of aspects that need to be considered in writing such as Organization, Vocabulary, and Language Use as well as the low enthusiasm of students in learning English. This study aims to improve students' writing skills through the use of animated videos. In conducting this research, the researcher used the classroom action research (CAR) methodology where the researcher used quantitative and qualitative data. The researcher taught writing skills at SMA Kawung Surabaya for two cycles, each with four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Each cycle consists of two meetings, so the total is four meetings in one month and three weeks. To collect and analyze data, the researcher used observation sheets, and student scores on diagnostic tests and formative tests. The results of this study indicate that the use of animated videos at SMA Kawung 2 Surabaya can improve students' writing skills. This study began with observations in the pre-cycle. The results of the study showed an increase in the percentage of students who passed the writing test from 26% in the pre-cycle to 82% in cycle 2. Student responses showed that they were interested in improving their writing skills with animated videos.
