Abstract

The use of figurative language in the lyrics of the song that the writer implicitly tells the deeper feeling can make it more aesthetically and beautifully delivered. Figurative language is the use of words, phrases and sentences in an unconventional and non-literal manner. There are some different types of figurative language metonymy, irony, hyperbole, litotes, simile, metaphor, personification (Leech, 1981). In this research, Figurative Language in Maher Zain’s Song Lyrics at ‘Thank You Allah’ Album 2009 analyzed by qualitative method because it is a research procedure that obtains descriptive data in written form from the interpretation of the researcher. As John states that research approaches are plans and the procedures for research that span the steps from broad assumptions to detailed methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation (2014). The data have showed that Maher Zain prefer using hyperbole as the most frequent figurative language employed in his song lyrics at Thank You Allah album. The researcher can answer and conclude the research based on the research question in chapter 1 specifically in after doing the steps mentioned before.
