Abstract

Rifky R, Muhammad. 2023. The Effectiveness of Propolis Concentration on the Inhibitory Power of Escherichia Coli Bacteria Using the Well Method. Faculty of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma University, Surabaya Advisor 1 : Dr. Emilia Devi Dwi Rianti, S.Si.,MT Advisor 2 : dr. Agung Budi Setiawan, Sp.KJ Background : Diarrhea is an endemic disease and often becomes a disease with potential for extraordinary events. Unsanitary environmental factors and irresponsible human behavior result in the accumulation of Escherichia Coli bacteria which will cause diarrheal disease. Propolis is bee glue, a sticky resinous material released from various plant sources such as exudate of buds, flowers, and leaves modified by bee secretions and wax. The content of flavonoids in propolis has antibacterial properties. Previous studies of propolis did not have inhibitory power against Escherichia Coli bacteria using the disc diffusion method at low or high concentrations. The study used propolis concentrations of 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, and 100% with the well method. Objective: Conduct research on the effect of the effectiveness of propolis concentration on the inhibition of Escherichia Coli bacteria using the well method. Methods : This study uses a research design used is quantitative experimental research with a post test only control group design approach. The data analysis used was a one-way Analysis of variance (Anova) test which was processed using computer software, namely SPSS 28.0 for windows. Results : Results of the effective concentration of propolis against the inhibition of Escherichia Coli bacteria using the well method. Test results for propolis with concentrations of 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, and 100% had different inhibition, the test results showed that the higher the concentration, the greater the inhibition, but the differences were not significant. The difference in centimeters between P1 and P2, P3, P4, and P5 is 0.1, 0.12, 0.15, 0.24. Comparison of the concentration of propolis with chloramphenicol antibiotics has a significant difference. Chloramphenicol has an average inhibition zone of 4.49, indicating that the average inhibition zone for chloramphenicol is greater than that of propolis. Conclusion : The test results prove that there is an effective effect of propolis concentration on the inhibition of Escherichia Coli bacteria using the well method. Keywords : Propolis, Escherichia coli, Inhibitory power
