Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the relationship between students’ the mastery of structure competence and the mastery of creating grammatical sentences. The method that used in this study is a correlational study and applied a cluster random sampling technique, with the total number of the sample was 40 students. The data were taken through test, grammar test and writing test. The data were analyzed by using product moment correlation by Pearson. The formula used to find out the correlation between students’ mastery of structure competence and their skill in creating grammatical sentences. From this research, the writer found that the average score of students’ mastery of structure competence is 70.9 and the average score of students’ skill in creating grammatical sentences is 62.65. The total result from the formula is 0.616 it means that the result obtained from the computation is higher than its critical value. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is an average relationship between students’ mastery of structure competence and their skill in creating grammatical sentences in the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 10, Surabaya.
