Abstract

Abstract Dental caries is the most common dental and oral disease in Indonesia due to several factors such as people's attitudes and behavior, lack of maintaining dental and oral health, dental and oral hygiene practices can be done individually by brushing teeth as an effort to prevent caries. This community service aims to determine the increase in students' knowledge after being given counseling and practicing brushing their teeth together so that there is a significant increase. The method is carried out by giving a questionnaire in the form of a pretest before counseling and posttest after counseling, so that it is hoped that it will be useful to increase the quality of knowledge in preventing dental caries. Students who took part in this activity consisted of grades IV and V, as many as 157 students. The average percentage of knowledge of fourth grade students before counseling was 39,47% and after counseling it increased to 65,58%. Meanwhile, the average percentage of fifth grade students’s knowledge before counseling was 47.53% and after counseling increased to 77,19%. It can be concluded that there is an increase in the understanding of knowledge on health and prevention of dental caries at Elementary School Kelurahan Dukuh Kupang Surabaya.
