Abstract

Background. Ketapang leaf extract contains flavonoids, saponins and tannins which are believed to help speed up the wound healing process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ketapang leaf extract on the wound healing process and to determine the effect of different extract concentrations in the preparation on the wound healing process. This study also aims to determine the effectiveness of ketapang leaf extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 12228-5. Method. The experimental animals were divided into 5 groups, namely the negative P1 group which was not given any treatment, the positive P2 group which was given gentamicin ointment, the P3 group (30% extract concentration), the P4 group (50% extract concentration), the P5 group (80% extract concentration) which was given an extract that had been ointment topically and in bacterial growth media. Ketapang antibacterial effectiveness value is not better than the antibiotics tested. Observations were made macroscopically by observing wound healing from day 1 to day 14. Data analysis used the Kruskal Wallis and Post Hoc Mann-Withney tests. Results. Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between the negative group and the positive group, P3, P4 and P5. Based on the results, there was no significant difference, but pharmacologically, ketapang leaf extract ointment had effectiveness in wound healing with an optimal effect of 80% concentration. Conclusion. The results of this study had an effect on wound healing in Wistar rats and in the antibacterial inhibition test of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 12228-5 there was no inhibition of ketapang leaf extract bacteria against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 12228-5.
