Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bay leaf extract as natural preservative for milkfish in Sidoarjo fishponds. The parameters in this research were organoleptic, pH and total colony of bacteria in milkfish. The experimental designed used was a completely randomized designed with 5 treatments and 5 repetitions. The treatment group P0 (without treatment) was negative control, P1 (bay leaf extract 5%), P2 (bay leaf extract 10%), P3 (bay leaf extract 15%) and P4 (bay leaf extract 20%). The results of the statistical analysis of the total colony of germs and the pH test showed a real comparison (p <0.05), as well as the results of the statistical analysis of the organoleptic test which showed the real differences in each treatment. Based on the information available, it was concluded that there was an effect of bay leaf extract as natural preservative for milkfish, especially in the 20% concentration of bay leaf extract.
