Abstract

This study examines the effect of empowerment and job characteristics on organizational commitment. The research population is the academic community of Economics and Business Faculty of Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya (FEB UWKS). The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling with the following criteria: students, lecturers and employees of FEB UWKS who have worked in the same company/institution for at least 6 months. The sample size is 109 people. The independent variables in this study are empowerment and job characteristics, while the dependent variable is organizational commitment. To test the hypothesis, multiple linear regression was used to test the effect of empowerment and job characteristics on organizational commitment. Before testing the hypothesis, the validity and reliability were tested. The results of the validity and reliability test showed valid and reliable results. The results of the regression test show that empowerment and job characteristics have a significant effect on organizational commitment. Thus, hypotheses 1 and 2 are accepted. Empowerment and job characteristics have a positive effect on organizational commitment. Thus, if empowerment and job characteristics increase, organizational commitment will also increase, otherwise if empowerment and job characteristics decrease, organizational commitment will also decrease.
