Abstract

Allergic rhinitis (RA) is a disease that causes an inflammatory reaction to the nasal mucosa accompanied by symptoms of sneezing, nasal congestion which is also caused by a type I hypersensitivity reaction after the nasal mucosa is exposed to the triggering allergen. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the prevalence and risk factors for allergic rhinitis in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma University, Surabaya, Class of 2019. This study is a descriptive study to describe a phenomenon or health problem that occurs. The population of this study were students of the Faculty of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma University, Surabaya, Class of 2019 totaling 112 people. This study used the chi-square test. The results showed an overview of the prevalence and risk factors for allergic rhinitis consisting of environmental factors and internal factors. From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the prevalence of allergic rhinitis in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya Class of 2019 is 42.86%. To be able to obtain more accurate results in research, it is recommended to conduct research when the situation is completely offline again so that the results obtained can be more optimal in accordance with the actual situation.
